These comprehensive e-learning courses & certifications, endorsed by the Professional Association of Wilderness Guides and Instructors (PAWGI), are geared towards individuals interested to start a career as Wilderness Guides, or outdoor enthusiasts wishing to gain wilderness knowledge.

The North American version focuses on environments north of the 45th parallel (Canada/Alaska). The European version focuses on environments north of the 45th parallel (Scandinavia).
The courses are entirely delivered through an online course composed of 8 modules: RegulationsNature InterpretationCultural InterpretationMeteorologyRisk & Emergency ManagementExpeditionary & Outdoor LeadershipSustainability & ConservationWilderness Survival

Each module includes a set of materials to be reviewed, assignments graded by an instructor, as well as online quizzes. Upon completion of all modules, the candidate takes a final online exam required for certification. Course is completed at the participant's own pace.

Following successful completion of the course, candidates will have acquired the theoretical knowledge necessary to guides clients in a wilderness environment. This includes knowledge relating to regulatory compliance, cultural and nature interpretation, meteorology, risk and emergency management, expeditionary and outdoor leadership, sustainability and conservation, and finally, wilderness survival.

Certification is also achieved through the Professional Association of Wilderness Guides and Instructors (PAWGI), by receiving a mark of 80% or above on the Wilderness Guide General Examination (online exam).
You must be 18 year or older to attend this course. As it is an entry-level course, no previous outdoor or wilderness experience is required.

In order to receive certification through Professional Association of Wilderness Guides and Instructors (PAWGI) upon successful completion of this course, as well as well as obtaning a passing mark on the Wilderness Guide General Examination (WGGE), you will need to obtain Standard First Aid/CPR Level C Certification. The first aid certification is only required at the time you apply for certification through PAWGI, and is not required to register for this course.
Courses start every week, subject to instructor availability, and there is no time limit to complete the course.

The course includes all required course materials in an electronic format (the purchase of actual textbook is therefore not required), all tuition fees, access to one or more PAWGI certified Wilderness Instructors, the WGGE Fee, as well as one second WGGE attempt at no charge in case of failure on first attempt.
